Why does my soap leave residue?

ok so im pretty sure this isnt a good thing, but whatever soap i use, or body wash, rather than just washing off like im pretty sure it should it always leaves a residue over my skin so that if u run ur hand along it therl be extra friction. Is this a normal kinda thing?
