Rifle bore pitting!?!?!?

I can't imagine a modern .22 lr load being corrosive. Most .22 lr rounds burn very dirty. It is powder residue. A patch should clean it out. I have shotguns that have not had a patch down the bore in 10 years and rifles that have not had a patch down the bore in 5 years and they are bright and shiny.
